What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF, GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.  Please upload images or documents no larger than 2MB and use PDF, JPEG, or PNG file types.  We do maintain copies of your invoices, so there’s no need to upload it; just the name, invoice number and describe your issue.

Contact forms

We do keep contact form submissions for a minimum of one year for customer service purposes, but we do not use the information submitted through them for marketing purposes unless you have selected the box allowing us to do so.  In that instance, we do not sell or distribute your contact information to anyone or any organization; it remains privately held with Shin Savers, LLC.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year unless you otherwise clear your cache.

If you have an account and you login to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Some of these sites may include but are not limited to YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, etc.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics among other Google products.  The Google Analytics Privacy Policy is available here as a PDF google_privacy or just click on this Policy link to visit their web page. We also use an SEO software program and their terms & conditions are also available here. By default WordPress does not collect any analytics data. However, many web hosting accounts collect some anonymous analytics data. some installed WordPress plugins (like social media ones) collect analytics upon usage. In that case, if you do not want your data collected, refrain from using any social media plugins and/or logout of your other programs.

Who we share your data with

Payments

We accept payments through PayPal. When processing payments, some of your data will be passed to PayPal, including information required to process or support the payment, such as the purchase total and billing information. Visit the PayPal Policy page here.

We use Braintree for Credit Card and PayPal payments as well as USPS applications such as ShipStation and Stamps.com to obtain shipping costs, tax, postage, labels, etc.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register an account on our website, we store the personal information you provide in your user profile. All account users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

For users with no accounts on our website, we do keep contact form submissions for a minimum of one year for customer service purposes.

For legal and customer service purposes, we will retain all invoices for a maximum of 3 years unless directed by the government to retain them for a longer period.  All invoices (if older than one year if you have an account), will be moved from the website and placed on an internal company server for security purposes.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Your contact information

Your contact information will not be shared with or sold to other companies, establishments, websites, or providers of any kind.  Your contact information will be used to create shipping labels, your account on shin-savers.com, and for any other Shin Savers, LLC restricted correspondence use only.
